Stewardship - Stewardship Database
The Harbor & Estuary Program is working to promote stewardship by providing support to the many organizations acting as stewards of the estuary. Our initial efforts have focused on encouraging collaboration and information sharing among these groups. The first step in this process has been to create the Online Stewardship Network described below. In the future, we will work with these groups to provide resources and information that will enhance their ability to protect and restore the estuary.
This searchable database contains information on a wide variety of stewardship programs and activities conducted by organizations within the NY – NJ Harbor Estuary region. The Online Stewardship Network is designed to help individuals and groups connect with others who have similar interests and goals.
The idea for this Stewardship Network developed from the publication of A Steward’s Guide to the Estuary (PDF), a booklet produced by the HEP Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) in Spring 2003. While the Guide identified some of the estuary’s stewards, it did not represent a comprehensive list of the efforts underway in the region. To gather more complete information, the CAC distributed a Stewardship Survey (Click Here) to more than 350 organizations. The resulting information is presented in the Online Stewardship Network.
We hope that this searchable database is a useful tool for creating a stronger network of coastal caretakers within the Harbor Estuary and we look forward to your feedback.
